Rattan Revival: How to Incorporate Natural Textures into Your Modern Australian Home

Sep 29, 2025

We Australians love bringing the outdoors into our homes. Rattan furniture is great for creating that perfect indoor-outdoor flow we Aussies love! It’s a versatile natural material that adds warmth, texture, and a relaxed vibe, perfectly suited to our laid-back lifestyle.

The Enduring Appeal of Rattan

Rattan has transcended its traditional tropical and bohemian roots to become a practical choice in contemporary Australian homes. Whether you’re going for coastal chic, a relaxed country look, or even a more sophisticated Scandinavian style, rattan pieces add that touch of organic sophistication to any space.

Rattan Styling Tips

In living areas, a statement rattan chair creates an instant focal point. Our SLF Rattan Chairs in either crisp white or natural finish make the perfect accent piece. For bedrooms, consider rattan bedheads for texture without overwhelming the space. And for outdoor areas, rattan’s durability makes it perfect for alfresco entertainment.

Mix and Match Materials

The beauty of rattan lies in its versatility and can easily blend into contemporary homes. Try pairing rattan with soft linens, plush cushions and contemporary metals for a balanced look. This contrast of textures creates visual interest and keeps spaces feeling fresh rather than themed.

Caring for Your Rattan Furniture

Our Australian climate can be tough on furniture, but with proper care, your rattan pieces will last for years! Keep indoor rattan out of direct sunlight to prevent fading and drying. For outdoor pieces, choose weather-resistant options like those in our curated collection at Living Emporium, designed specifically to withstand the elements. Regular dusting and occasional cleaning with a damp cloth will keep your rattan looking its best.
